Mirae Asset Debuts Three New Thematic Growth ETFs Including Hong Kong’s First Asia Semiconductor ETF

July 23, 2021, Hong Kong  Mirae Asset Global Investments (Hong Kong) Limited (the “firm” or “Mirae Asset”) today announced the launch of three new ETFs: the Global X Asia Semiconductor ETF (stock code: 3119), the Global X China E-commerce and Logistics ETF (stock code: 3124), and the Global X China Games and Entertainment ETF (stock code: 3117). Set to begin trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on July 23, 2021, the new funds will join the firm’s Thematic Growth suite, which offer retail and institutional investors access to powerful, long-term disruptive trends in China and the wider Asia region. These new listings will also bring the total number of Global X ETFs offered in Hong Kong to 21 products, representing assets under management of USD 2.67 billion as of July 22, 2021.

Jung Ho RHEE, Chief Executive Officer of Mirae Asset, said, “As Asian companies at the cutting edge of disruptive innovation continue to reshape the region’s economy, we’re delighted to offer our investors the opportunity to access the exciting themes of Asia semiconductors, China games and entertainment, and China e-commerce and logistics through targeted and efficient investment solutions.”

The Global X Asia Semiconductor ETF, which is the firm’s first regional thematic ETF, invests in Asia-based companies involved in the production and development of semiconductors and semiconductor equipment. With long-term global demand for semiconductors set to increase driven in part by the rise of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet of things, 5G and electric and autonomous vehicles, Asia is ideally positioned to benefit. 75% of the world’s semiconductors are currently manufactured in Asia1 and several of its companies are global leaders in chip production, especially in leading edge chips. In addition, the region possesses leading capabilities in other areas such as semiconductor equipment and materials as well as chip assembly, packaging and testing.

The Global X China Games and Entertainment ETF offers access to Chinese companies providing entertainment and related products, including online games, sports and performing arts entertainment, games and entertainment software, media content providers, and media production and broadcasting. China already has one of the world’s largest entertainment and media markets but the country’s expenditure on entertainment has ample room for further growth. With one of the world’s most sophisticated mobile payment infrastructures and a rapidly expanding 5G network, growth will mainly be driven by online forms of entertainment, such as online games, e-sports and video and music streaming platforms.

The Global X China E-commerce and Logistics ETF seeks targeted exposure to the e-commerce and logistics theme in China. E-commerce continues to grow at a rapid pace and the volume of online sales is set to surpass US$3 trillion by the end of 20222. With highly innovative business models that combine online retail, social media, live streaming and group buying, China’s e-commerce platforms have revolutionized the retail industry. In addition to a sophisticated digital infrastructure, China’s expansive logistics network played a crucial role in enabling the rapid rise of e-commerce. The country’s logistics companies are increasingly harnessing innovation and technology to optimize their operational efficiencies and China’s smart logistics market is one of the fastest growing segments within the industry.
